The Digital Journalist's Handbook: ON SALE NOW
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce the release of The Digital Journalist's Handbook, a unique guide to the tools journalists need to know to thrive in today's digital newsroom.
Online technology and digital journalism changes every day, but the technologies featured in The Handbook are the core tools and storytelling techniques journalists should be familiar with, including blogging, audio, video, Flash, audio slideshows, social networks, and more. The Digital Journalist's Handbook not only explains what each of the tools are and how they are used in journalism, but also provides step-by-step guides to producing digital journalism stories and content using the tools.
You don't have to be tech-savvy to understand everything covered in The Handbook. Each topic is explained in a simple and easy to follow way and includes illustrations and diagrams of everything from the layout of a typical audio slideshow to the difference between USB and FireWire cables. The book also includes a glossary with definitions of more than 130 terms and phrases commonly used by digital journalists. Best of all, The Handbook includes links to online tutorials, resources, and examples, so readers can explore each topic further.

The book is for both novice digital journalists and seasoned professionals looking to enhance their skills and their reporting. No matter your level of proficiency in digital journalism, you will undoubtedly learn something new after reading The Handbook.
The Digital Journalist's Handbook is on sale now and I absolutely encourage you to purchase a copy for yourself and for the aspiring and veteran journalists in your life. I guarantee that you will be happy that you did.

Sounds like an buy worthy book, but why isn't there a kindle version?
The book is called "The Digital Journalist's Handbook", not "The Analog Journalist's Handbook"?
:D
Would be even better if it was avaible thru Safari Books Online.

Congrats, Mark. I've been waiting on this and am very much looking forward to getting a copy.
And please people, Mark has written what promises to be a seminal book, and all you can do is whine that it's not available in some other version or some other place?
How about showing some support and just picking it up? You even get a discount at Amazon.

Mark S. Luckie: That's great! Will buy it then.
Tari Akpodiete: I live a digital life and therefor want to read about digital journalism, then why should i buy an analog book? Even if it's the most well written book in existance.

This book sounds cool. I hear the debate about a digital book in old school format though. Is there an e-book available for download?
Tari Akpodiete Says:
@ Mr. C - fine if you want a kindle version (not that that format is the be all and end all); there's nothing wrong with wanting an ebook. you could have asked for it more politely.
frankly, i doubt you live a 100% 'digital life' since it's not actually possible to do so. mostly, claiming to do so about being pretentious, hope that works out for you, given that you yourself are analog.

I've just purchased it but, as I'm living in Barcelona, I'll have to wait a pair of weeks untill it gets home...
I'll comment again once I've read it. Congrats again, for the book and your great blog.

I apologize for the delay Carme. It will take the book an estimated 2-3 weeks before it is available from European Amazon.coms. Thanks for reading!
Francisco Gomes Says:
Can't wait to get it. The only thing that's preventing me from doing it is the shipping price/time to Portugal.
