I follow a bunch of these. Nice list! Two you are missing:
http://ajaxian.com
While primarily for programmers, they show live examples of the most cutting-edge technologies happening in the web space...and why you should be excited. I haven't found a better blog with practical examples the average reader can connect with, rather than just talking tech in tech language.
http://vandelaydesign.com/blog/
Posts are sets of "best of" examples for top-notch websites. Whether sorted by genre or by usage of a specific graphic technique, the examples are awesome inspiration (or cliches to avoid). There are plenty of "cool site" websites, but this feed keeps you up-to-date without all the effort of browsing them.

Hey Mark,
Thanks for this list. I just learned about a few of them in my online media course. What is your method of finding these kinds of websites? What technique of surfing on the web are you doing that allows you to cultivate such an intense list of websites? It seems each blog you post is something I just learned or did in class/ school. Thanks for having such an innovative blog that really helps other journalists.

I also use google reader and my unread feeds are always 1000+ which my husband teases me about. Sometimes I can't read them all or keep up with my feeds. What do you do?
I also noticed you have many design blogs. How can you keep up with them all the time? I no longer have multiple design blogs (albeit mine are about green design). I can barely keep up with the one I have. Do you do a lot of skimming?
Also, how do you sort your google reader? Do you sort the feeds by level of favorite? Or by category? I never know how to organize mine except for friends blogs and web comics. They fit nicely into categories.

Liz -
I check my RSS reader every morning and every evening and sometimes in the afternoon depending on my schedule. I don't read everything - I'm mostly scanning headlines or images for posts that seem interesting. If I can read the post immediately I will, but more often than not I "star" the ones I want to read later. Sometimes, they languish in my starred items for a week or two, but I do get to them all eventually.
And yes my feeds are sorted by category but I usually read them all at once. It's just gives me a better idea of what I'm about to read.
